Abstract

This paper assesses the present and future electric vehicle (EV) policies within Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, emphasizing their strides in lessening fossil fuel dependence and addressing environmental issues by decarbonizing the current transportation sector. It scrutinizes the state of EV infrastructure, incentives, and regulations across Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Notable challenges encompass expanding charging networks, advancing battery technology, and standardizing regulations. The study also recognizes the influence of economic and geopolitical factors on the GCC's EV trajectory. Additionally, it explores policy amendments, collaboration opportunities, and renewable energy integration.
