Abstract

Two failure criteria, namely Mohr-Coulomb and cap models, are considered in this paper with some modifications. Mohr-Coulomb theory is applied to concrete after stress and strain cut-offs are made. The classical cap model is extended by incorporating the third stress invariant and combined hardening. The two criteria are formulated and incorporated into a nonlinear finite element program. Several examples are presented, and the results are compared with experimental data.
