Abstract
This paper describes a newly developed method for a quick and accurate preliminary cost estimation. Based on historical data from 68 petrochemical plants, the technique requires only material balance calculations for the raw materials and their up-to-date prices. The total production costs and the capital investment can be easily calculated for any capacity by means of simple relations. Elements of the production costs can also be estimated. The probable accuracy is predicted to be less than plus or minus 10%. The technique can be used for any chemical plant if similar relationships can be developed.
