Abstract
The effect of fluorine (F) addition on the phase formation and superconducting properties of Re-doped HgBa2Ca2Cu3Oy (HgRe1223) was investigated. Results of x-ray diffraction and microstructural investigations showed the formation of phase pure HgRe1223 with large grains in F doped composition. Magnetization measurements showed that the critical current density increased significantly by fluorination. Results of the studies on the effect of F content showed that there exists an optimum F content above which the properties start deteriorating.
