Abstract
A description is given of an electromagnetic induction pump for the liquid sodium circuit of a fast breeder reactor, which was developed in Czechoslovakia. The pumps of the series ISM are for operation at temperatures up to 500 DEGREE c with throughputs of 1 - 120 m SUP 3/h. The liquid metal is pumped through a spiral shaped duct under the influence of the electromagnetic field generated by the AC current in the windings of the stator, causing displacement of the liquid metal in the axial direction. Characteristic curves show a gradual decrease in flow rate against an increasing pressure. The efficiency varies from 14 to 21% according to throughput. (B.D.H.)
