Electrochemical Methods of High-Entropy Alloy Coating Fabrication

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter › peer-review

Abstract

High-entropy alloy (HEA) coatings have recently emerged as a transformative solution to enhance the performance and longevity of materials exposed to extreme environments. These coatings leverage the exceptional properties of HEAs, including superior mechanical strength, improved corrosion and chemical resistance, high thermal stability, and outstanding wear resistance. This chapter encompasses a concise explanation of the state-of-the-art practices for HEA coating fabrication, focusing on electrochemical methods such as electrodeposition. A review of previous reports is presented, emphasizing their suitability for different substrates and applications. Furthermore, the chapter delves into the emerging trends and hybrid techniques that target electrochemical approaches to overcome current limitations. The discussion also addresses the challenges in achieving uniformity, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of HEA coatings.
