Abstract

An ozonation study was conducted to determine the effects of ozonation on de‐watering, drying and settling characteristics of four different biological sludges. The sludges included were two return activated sludges, gravity thickened sludge, and anaerobically digested sludge. Sludge samples were ozonated for 0, 30, 60, and 120 minutes with ozone concentration of 13.5 mgl−1 in gas stream. Ozonation affected all three physical characteristics but with limited improvements. Odor control was excellent and no growth of flies was observed on dried sludges.
