Abstract

A series of magnetite nanoparticles were prepared with electrosynthesis. Natural capping agent, sodium alginate (SA) was added to electrolysis system to produce smaller size and highly crystalline of magnetite. The variation of SA content highly influenced the particle size which confirmed with XRD. FTIR characterization confirmed that SA interact with magnetite surface. The magnetite product was also evaluated for paracetamol (PCT) degradation as a sample of pharmaceutical waste due to its large consumption in society. The highest initial degradation rate (8.22 x 10-2 mg/L.min) was achieved with magnetite which is prepared from 0.05% w/v of SA at initial concentration of 15 mg/L PCT. Finally, the result could contribute to electrosynthesis advancement of magnetite with high purity using inexpensive and green chemicals.
