Abstract
Alpha beta copper aluminum alloys containing chromium additions are largely more corrosion resistant than alpha copper aluminum alloys containing Nickel. Stannic additions along with Fe and Mn are not very effective. The addition of chromium provides stability and resistance to the beta phase and shifts the potential in the positive direction. Increased additions of aluminum do not cause any change in the morphology of alpha or alpha beta alloys. Due to chromium addition the beta phase does not undergo preferential dissolution in the presence of manganese and iron. Addition of chromium prevents the decomposition of beta to gamma and imparts excellent corrosion resistant properties.
