Earth as a construction material conserving Addiriyah of Saudi Arabia

Abstract

Addiriyah is one of the most prominent architectural heritages of Saudi Arabia amongst hundreds of rich heritage sites. It is located on the banks of the Wadi Hanifah elevated 700 m above sea level at Najd central plateau of the Arabian Peninsula. Today it is situated almost within the limits of the metropolitan Riyadh, the capital city of the Saudi Arabia. Fortunately, the architectural heritage of Addiriyah is taken care by the government of Saudi Arabia and they launched a large-scale program to restore this rich architectural heritage. This paper focuses on the construction technique and material used conserving the heritage of Addiriyah. The paper critically analyzes the ongoing earth construction of Addiriyah conservation program in the light of contemporary stabilized earth construction. To achieve the aim of this paper the author adopts several research methods, such as, desktop survey, case study, photography, and drawings.
