Abstract

Earth air tube heat exchanger is a viable alternative for cooling/heating space, which works after utilizing the earth stored energy. It extracts earth stored energy for heating a space that exhibits the earth’s heat source property. Similarly, earth air tube heat exchanger releases heat to earth in order to make the earth as a heat sink for cooling a space. In the present work, we perform a parametric study for investigating the variation of length of earth air tube heat exchanger with inlet and outlet air temperature for the cooling mode of application. We consider a PVC pipe of inner diameter 0.05 m with thickness 0.025 m and thermal conductivity of 0.15 w/mk. The obtained results indicate that for a comfortable condition of 26 °C, the required length of the buried pipe was 8.42 m when the inlet temperature was 36 °C.
