Abstract

After more than a decade of research in the area of e-government adoption research, no study has performed a literature analysis on the specific aspects of e-government adoption such as challenges and critical success factors. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the studies on challenges and critical success factors of e-government adoption research to suggest the future researchers about the salient facts about it. This study can help the researchers to evaluate the challenges and factors required for the successful implementation of e-government services in the different circumstances. This literature analysis was performed through filtering the usable studies specifically on challenges (C=43) and critical success factors (C=8) from an overall research studies (C=448) on e-government adoption research. The findings indicated that digital divide, poor management and infrastructure, ICT related challenges, lack of resources, lack of trust, privacy and security, and technical challenges were among the most commonly experienced challenges across the relevant studies. Moreover, user satisfaction, information accuracy, and security were few common critical success factors. The paper also acknowledges the limitations of this research and suggests further research directions for the researchers.
