Abstract
Factors affecting the service life of concrete reinforcements are studied. Methods for predicting the long-term durability of reinforced concrete are considered. Interpretation of data from these studies requires an understanding of basic corrosion processes which can only be derived from laboratory experiments. In recent years important advances have been made in understanding the mechanisms of protection and corrosion of steel in concrete.
