Abstract
A concept to realize a dual-polarized end-fire and ± broadside millimeter-wave (mmWave) antenna is devised and presented. The approach is based on a symmetrically stacked planar antenna (SSPA) topology. By utilizing the side radiation, which is perpendicular to the end-fire radiation, a dual-polarized quasi-spherical radiation is accomplished. This is achieved by controlling the phase difference between the top and bottom antenna elements. The extended design features dual-polarization with quasi-spherical radiation including end-fire and ± broadside directions. For one polarization, the phase difference between the top and bottom antenna elements is set to 180°. In addition, by exciting the antenna elements through another set of ports with in-phase signals, the other polarization is generated.
