Abstract

A 2-element dual-band frequency reconfigurable multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is presented. Consisting of meandered slot antennas as the elements, the proposed antenna is planar and provides large and smooth frequency transition in two bands from 1.35-1.62 GHz and 1.95-2.2 GHz. The frequency reconfigurability is achieved through varactor diode loading across the slot. Isolation between antenna elements is improved by etching out an isolation structure in the ground plane which results in a minimum 20 dB isolation in the entire operating band. The antenna is analyzed for MIMO evaluation parameters and shows good performance.
