Abstract

Renewable energy technologies are a way to combat climate change, and the Chinese government has taken the initiative to implement solar photovoltaic energy projects around the country. The quality of solar photovoltaics and their blockchain-based traceability information can play a substantial role in achieving this objective. Therefore, this study investigated how quality aspects of solar photovoltaics and blockchain traceability information affect consumers’ intentions and actual adoption. This study was developed utilizing the extended technology acceptance model and investigated using 374 online survey responses from China. The empirical analysis established that demonstrability, output quality, image, and subjective norms positively impact perceived usefulness. Furthermore, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness positively impact intention. Moreover, behavioral intention positively influences actual adoption. Finally, blockchain-enabled product diagnosticity and informativeness moderate the association between behavioral intention and actual adoption. The Chinese government should promote and conduct awareness programs to attract and motivate people by educating them about the numerous community, environmental, and personal benefits of solar photovoltaics.
