Abstract

The existence and sources of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in the environment is of great interest for several reasons. Uppermost among these reasons is the knowledge that several PAH are known carcinogens to man and may be accumulated in the environment. A report is presented on the analysis and distribution of PAH and their homologs from selected Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and Pacific OCS areas. A brief discussion of the sources of PAH in recent sediments is also given.
