Abstract

In the line distance protection setting, the thyristor-controlled series capacitor type fault current limiter (TCSC-FCL) is usually treated as a reactor, ignoring the dynamic impedance characteristics, which may lead to operation failure/maloperation or slow response. To solving the problem above, TCSC-FCL dynamic impedance analysis model was established. Accounting for the bypass mode of TCSC-FCL in the first cycle, the time-varying characteristics of TCSC-FCL during the process from series compensation mode to limit dynamic mode was analyzed. Then the paper proposed the function expression of dynamic impedance characteristics of TCSC-FCL, and put forward distance protection setting strategy based on dynamic offset impedance circle, in order to eliminate the influence of TCSC-FCL dynamic impedance characteristics to the distance protection action. By establishing typical grid model including TCSC-FCL, the correctness of dynamic feature's function expression and the distance protection setting strategy are proved.
