Abstract
The diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings on the electrode materials are formed to ameliorate their functional properties, such as (i) better structural integrity, (ii) enhanced electronic conductivity, and (iii) prevention of the direct contact of active material particles with the electrolyte, and thus achieve better electrochemical performance. In this chapter, we have critically reviewed the current state-of-the-art research and development progress on DLC coatings on battery electrodes including the coating strategies and improved structural and electrochemical properties. Finally, the conclusions and future research directions of DLC coatings on electrodes for next-generation batteries are presented.
