Abstract

The concentrations of trace metals (Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn and Pb, Cd) in sea lettuce (Ulva lactuca) were determined using FAAS and GFAAS, respectively, after digestion bydry and wet ashing. The relative standard deviations for trace metals varied from 2.6 to 5.9% and recoveries, from of 95-104%. The detection limits (μg/l) were Cu:15, Fe:14, Mn:10, Zn:9 for FAAS and Pb:0.85, Cd:0.078 for GFAAS, respectively. The accuracy of the method was checked and confirmed by standard reference material. The results of the present study were found to be in agreement with earlier works. Ulva lactuca can be used for monitoring of the trace metal pollutions in the sea.
