Abstract
The effect of stiffness or strength degradation, or both, under cyclicloading on the seismic response of single-degree-of-freedom inelastic systemswith 5% initial damping is investigated. Rules are proposed to construct inelasticdesign spectra for these systems (typical of reinforced concrete construction)as a function of the desired displacement (or ductility) ratio. These rulescomplement those used at present based on the response of simple elasto-plasticsystems without any degradation.
