Abstract

This paper presents a novel antenna design that utilizes surface wave launcher (SWL) elements in combination with a shared partially reflecting surface (Bull's eye) structure on top of a grounded dielectric slab (GDS) to produce a planar 2-D multi-beam leaky-wave antenna (operating between 21.65 - 26.03 GHz). The simulation results show four narrow beams with 3 dB beamwidths of 16.2o generated at broadside with a tilt angle of ±10o in two different planes. Each individual antenna element has a gain of 11 dB. The leaky-wave antenna presented here is useful in K Band as well as 5G base station and access point applications that require multi-beam antenna systems.
