Abstract
— Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) is a promising option for high-speed underwater links. Its performance, however, is limited by scattering, absorption, and background noise in water. This study evaluates OOK and QPSK modulation in a UWOC system modeled in Optisystem and MATLAB. At an SNR of 15 dB, OOK reached a BER of about 10-4 and supported 25–30 m of transmission. QPSK showed stronger performance, achieving a BER near 10-6 and extending the range to 35–40 m in clear water. These results indicate that QPSK offers better potential for future high-speed UWOC applications.
