Design and Fabrication of a Six DOF Gantry Robot for Welding Applications

Abstract

In this paper, the design and development of a six degree of freedom (DOF) gantry robot for welding applications is discussed. Welding operation involves safety risks as it deals with high temperatures and currents. Therefore, integration of an automated welding robot in the manufacturing setup involves a careful design and fabrication of the robot for the intended application. In this paper, we start from the mathematical modeling combined with mechanical design to obtain a solid 3d simulation model. Later, each part of the hardware is integrated to form the complete system. The hardware is tested for robustness and precision welding.
