Abstract
The ongoing sustainable energy translation requires revamping of the energy sector in terms of environmental emissions, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Improvements are required with regards to not only the energy resources and utilization technologies but also the transmission and distribution system. Decentralized generation (DG) is the energy generated close to the point of use. It helps avoid/minimize transmission and distribution setup, thus saving on cost and losses. Decentralized generation thus offers better efficiency, flexibility, and economy, and is thus regarded as an integral part of the unfolding energy transition. DG systems can employ a wide range of energy resources and technologies.
