Abstract

The coastal area of the Arabian Gulf possesses one of the most corrosive environments in the world. Extremes of temperatures, high humidity, particulates of salt and sand, and large amounts of S02 and NOX are the major contributors to the corrosion problems faced by industry. A quantitative survey of the problems faced by the oil and gas industry, public utilities, desalination plants, and the construction industry is presented.
