Abstract

The corrosion performance of a new titanium-based metal ceramic composite (TiCAD) in HCl, HNO3, H2SO4 and in Neutral Chloride Solution, was evaluated to determine its suitability for internal combustion engines, pump valves and bodies. Silicon combines outstanding properties of both metallic and ceramic constituents in TiCAD composite, and allows its consideration as a perspective material for thermally stressed I.C. engine parts. New methods of thermo-mechanical treatment need to be explored to improve the corrosion resistance of TiCAD composite to fully explore the advantages offered by its outstanding physical and mechanical properties.
