Abstract

Integration of renewable energy source like photovoltaic (PV) units at electric vehicle charging station can reduce operational cost, increase energy efficiency and reliability of charging station for sustainable development. This paper proposes a unique architecture for plug-in-hybrid electric vehicles for DC charging station at the megawatt level by the use of a grid-tied Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) controlled converter powered from PV units to augment grid power during day time and to get smooth DC voltages at battery end during high charging loads. Proposed topology is a mix of grid power and PV power for serving EV loads. To get maximum power from PV, maximum power point tracking algorithm is also used. Numerical simulation results from MATLAB/SIMULINK show the efficacy of the proposed solution. The proposed system achieves desired stable DC charging voltage with fast charging and total harmonic distortion is 0.23%.
