Abstract

Due to their attractive features, the switched reluctance motors (SRMs) are an attractive candidate for electric vehicles (EVs) and many industrial applications. However, they have an inherent disadvantage of torque ripple. The torque sharing functions (TSFs) is the more effective and promising strategies that are used for reduction of SRM torque ripple. The TSFs are mainly employed for speeds up to motor base speed, as motor speed increases the torque ripple also increases. This happens because actual motor phase current cannot track accurately its reference current generated by TSF controller especially for high speed operation. This paper introduces a torque ripple compensation technique based on TSF strategy. The motor torque is calculated based on accurate machine modeling that is achieved using finite element analysis (FEA). Then the calculated torque error signal is compensated through TSF controller in order to reduce it. The torque error is added to incoming phase because it has the minimum absolute rate of change of flux-linkage. The investigation includes several types of TSFs (linear, cubic and sinusoidal). The effectiveness and feasibility of proposed control technique is illustrated through simulation results. The proposed control technique provides easy implementation and simple structure.
