Abstract

In this paper we compare time domain (TDE) and frequency domain equalization (FDE) techniques for an Indoor Ultra Wide Band (UWB) channel. The innovation in the work is the employment of Overlap Save scheme, which unlike Cyclic Prefix guarantees no change in transmitter circuitry. The channel has been simulated according the model proposed by [1]. Based on our simulation results, we show that a 128 point FFT/IFFT based FDE with an overlap save length of 64 gives the most optimal performance. The results also show that FDE and TDE give somewhat similar performance in the given scenario. However, TDE is not a feasible solution because of its exhaustive computational complexity. Hence, we propose the use of FDE with the above mentioned parameters for Indoor UWB systems.
