Abstract
This paper presents the possible configurations of battery back-up units (BBUs) used in modern data centers. Three configurations are examined: central, string, and distributed. In accordance with the Open Compute Project–Open Rack (OCP-OR) specification V3, the study compares these configurations in terms of cost, efficiency, and reliability. Simulation results for the distributed configuration are presented to verify its ability to achieve batteries' state-of-charge (SoC) balancing and load-voltage regulation.
