Abstract

Phenacyltriphenyl phosphonium salts containing the anions SbF6- and PF6- are useful photoinitiators for cationic polymerization of cyclohexene oxide; photosensitization by the addition of pyrene and N-methylphenothiazine enhances the rate of polymerization. Experimental results are presented to show the effects of photolysis time, photosensitization, initiator concentration and the anion on the rate of polymerization in dichloromethane at 25°.
