Abstract
This report deals with the carbonization of the ethylated product of Japan's Yubari coal at 400 and 500 degree C, less than 20 and 1000 kg/Cm**2 of nitrogen for 5 h. , in order to obtain the needle-like coke. The temperature and pressure effects on the ethylated product were first investigated, then compared with those obtained with the natural coal. The microscopic observation of the carbonization products - under the normal pressure - from methylated- and ethylated products of Yubari and Taiheiyo coals showed that the mesophase was absent in them.
