Abstract
Calculation of the channel capacity of communication channels is essential in describing the capability of sending information through the channel. A numerical solution is given for the channel capacity of a deterministic model of an underwater communication channel. Although the channel model is not time varying, it includes four main features of the actual channel, namely multipath effects, bandlimiting, attenuation, and the Doppler effect. The channel capacity is then calculated using a random model where the attenuation and delay factors are treated as random variables.
