Abstract

The production of biohydrogen and biodiesel from various waste feedstocks aligns with several key initiatives, including Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Hydrogen Mission, and the conversion of waste to energy, while also contributing to sustainable development goals and promoting a circular economy. This study specifically investigates the generation of biohydrogen from food waste and the synthesis of biodiesel from Thevetia Peruviana seeds (TPB) collected from the waste generated inside the college campus. Additionally, both biofuels were evaluated for their energy generation potential through dual fuel testing on a diesel engine, assessing their performance and viability in practical applications. Lone and dual fuel mode of engine operation were tested on a diesel engine with the produced biofuels. An increase of brake thermal efficiency of 10.39 % was observed with the hydrogen utilization TPB when compared with TPB lone mode. Further, the average decrease of CO emission for TPB-Hydrogen dual fuel mode was 12.4 % in comparison with diesel mode. Furthermore, the average decrease of HC emission for TPB lone mode was 5.52 % in comparison with diesel mode. The average decrease of HC emission for TPB-Hydrogen dual fuel mode was 14.72 % in comparison with diesel mode. Also, the average decrease of HC emission for TPB-Hydrogen dual fuel mode was 9.74 % in comparison with TPB lone mode.
