Abstract

The porous graphitic carbon derived from Walnut shell as an anode material is prepared via simultaneous activation and graphitization methodology. The uniform porosity of the as-prepared MGC material have advantages in energy storage application and can be applied for electrode in lithium ion batteries (LiBs). Herein, we investigate the electrochemical performance of MGC the results reveal comparable electrochemical properties. The value of discharge capacity was 1220.22 mA h g−1 for first cycle, that is appreciably good value. Long-term cycling stability was evaluated by plotting the charge discharge capacity vs. cycle number that afforded good capacity retention. The maintenance in this capacitive value may owes from the uniform distribution of pore size throughout the carbonaceous matrix. Additionally, various advantages including elusive reaction conditions, operational controllability and pronounced electrochemical performance solidify the use of MGC as a potential anode material for high-performance LIBs.
