Abstract

New economic challenges in the era of global economy are transforming the chemical process industrial environment. Integration of processes, people and organizations is necessary to build on the strengths of each one and optimize performance. As such, process companies will be more effective and can compete worldwide. Automation effort and the wide spread of IT technology is transforming the objective of total integration and asset management to reality. One of the major benefits of such effort is that expertise and knowledge is easily shared. For instance, expertise in optimizing downstream operations is migrating and greatly influencing development of upstream operation. This chapter attempts to cover the whole process in terms of technology and automation effort.
