Abstract

Grounding grid in high voltage substations is designed to serve as a safety net for all power equipment located in deferent locations in the substation. In fact, designing of grounding gird professionally is essential due to several significant parameters that shall be considered during not only fault conditions but also during normal conditions where some changes might occur in some power equipment due to equipment operational factors. Therefore, effective and optimal assessment procedure is highly important to ensure safe and reliable substation operation. Thus, in this paper, detailed study of assessment of grounding grid is discussed in terms of reliability, economy, and safety during the designing phase of grounding grid as well as providing a case study to highlight the impact of the new assessment strategy in respect to design, protection, and financial characteristics of high voltage substations.
