Abstract

This chapter discusses the synthesis of functionalized nanomaterials through different synthesis techniques, and the diverse characterization of functionalities on nanomaterials; the applications of nanomaterials for environmental remediation have also been studied for the purpose of wastewater restoration. The chapter starts with a brief introduction of functionalized nanomaterials, their functionalities, and their use in environmental applications. Following that, specific synthesis methods for nanomaterials (through chemical and physical methods), and functionalization of nanomaterials through direct and indirect functionalization methods have been discussed. Going further, functionalized nanomaterials for wastewater restoration through adsorption, catalysis, photocatalysis, membranes and disinfection have been explored. This chapter also discusses the cost and environmental impacts of functionalized nanomaterials, and it ends with conclusive notes and future prospects of functionalized nanomaterials for wastewater restoration.
