Abstract
In the atmospheric wind boundary layer near the ground the sound wave propagation is not only affected by the decrease of the wind force with altitude, but also by the wind direction change. For example in a laminar Ekman layer this direction changes by 45 degrees. Both phenomena, the wind force gradient and the wind direction change can affect aircraft, traffic and power plant noise.
