Abstract

The diffraction of the two lowest order LP modes of an abruptly-terminated weakly guiding optical fiber is studied by the Method of Lines. The full formalism of the application of the method is given. The method is shown to be suited to studies of the scatter of guided modes at abrupt discontinuities.
