Abstract
In this proposed study, a 2 × 2 circularly polarized octagonal-shaped microstrip array antenna constructed on a Teflon substrate for the Ku-band frequency is designed and simulated. The antenna's ground plane incorporates a slot line that enables parallel and series power dividers to be used with the both-sided MIC implementation. The series divider microstrip line separates into two microstrip lines, allowing for orthogonal stimulation of each individual patch. The length difference of the microstrip lines feeding the patches provides the required quarter-wavelength phase variation amid orthogonal excitations. A meander line is added to the microstrip line along the diagonal patch to ensure that all of the array components' horizontal field lines are aligned correctly. The simulated findings reveal good circular polarization (CP) performance, with more than 30 dB relative power level difference and 400 MHz axial ratio bandwidth. The array also exhibits good impedance matching, with an impedance bandwidth of 1200 MHz. The gain, directivity, and efficiency results reveal that the antenna efficiently transmits a well-directed beam in the broadside direction.
