Abstract
An approximate method is described for the numerical treatment of a three-dimensional free boundary problem arising in hydraulics. In this method the solution of the free boundary problem is reduced to the numerical solution of a first-order system of ordinary differential equations by use of a two-dimensional quadratic piezometric head profile. The method is simple and requires very little computing time.
