Abstract

This paper proposes an effective methodology to identify the optimum location for DSTATCOM placement for minimizing the losses and voltage profile improvement in radial distribution system. The optimal size of DSTATCOM is calculated by modeling it, to maintain the voltage magnitude as 1 p.u. and to supply the required reactive power for compensation at the node where DSTATCOM is placed. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested on 33- bus radial distribution system. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach is quite efficient in finding optimum solutions.
