Abstract

The paper presents an analysis method for inertial particle separator system. Such systems are used, for example, on inlets of helicopter engines for operation in desert-like environments to avoid sand and/or dust ingestion in engines to prevent corrosion and, hence, to enhance engine performance as well as life. The paper presents the details of the sand particle impingement analysis method developed in the study along with some results. The strengths and limitations of the analysis method are discussed in light of suggestions for improvement of the method. Finally, the paper presents a brief discussion on the design methodology for such systems.
