Abstract

Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks (WSANs) depend heavily on connectivity among actors to perform their tasks. Loss of strong connectivity caused by the failure of an actor may partition the deployed WSAN and degrade its functionality. In this paper, we present an Adaptive Connectivity Restoration Approach (ACRA), which works autonomously and enables the network to self-heal and restore connectivity. ACRA is an on-demand approach that does not impose any overhead prior to the failure. The mathematical analysis and simulation results show that ACRA has a low cost in both large and small networks and thus, suits dense and sparse deployments.
