Abstract

Electron probe microanalyses are given of chromites and their alteration products from different textural types of chromite ore. All the altered chromites (ferritchromites) show enrichment in Cr, Mn, and Fe, and depletion in Al and Mg. The alteration occurred in more than one episode. The ferritchromite is not an overgrowth on the original chromite and its formation is accompanied by a definite decrease in volume. The amount of chlorite associated with the chromite depends on the Al content of the primary chromite. -A.H.
