Abstract

Porous cups or suction lysimeters provide a simple and direct method for collecting water samples in the unsaturated zone. A new procedure is described in which a check valve is placed in the sample collection assembly. This construction permits complete collection at any depth without the loss of samples. A detailed description of construction and operation illustrates the advancement over previous designs.
