Abstract

The design of a robust damping controller in the thyristor converter circuit of a high voltage ACDC link in a power system has been presented. The H -based design has been realized through a relatively new graphical design procedure termed the 'loop-shaping' technique. A detailed power system model including the dynamics of the generator, exciter. HVDC link and converter controllers has been considered. The robust controller is tested for a number of operating conditions considering various disturbances on a power system. The robust rectifier controller has been shown to provide excellent damping characteristics over a wide range of operation.
