Abstract

A quasi-optimum feedback control strategy for stabilizing doubly-excited machines in a power system is proposed. The control strategy depends only on local information pertaining to each machine in the system. The strategy was tested via simulation on a single machine as well as a multimachine system. It has been observed that the addition of the quasi-optimal control on the quadrature axis field winding provides a much better transient response than when it is applied to the direct axis field winding only. The control strategy is relatively easy to implement because it requires local information pertaining to each generator.
